A former justice ministry investigator denied Wednesday that he threatened to harm Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian, following his arrest on accusations of intimidating politicians and media personalities.
The man, identified by the Ministry of Justice as Yang Ching-hai, acknowledged he sent parcels containing bullets to Taiwanese lawmakers, but denied making written or other threats to Chen and his family.
Chen revealed last week he had received an unsigned letter by someone who warned him to "beware of two bullets" and threatened to "rape Chen Hsin-yu and kidnap little An-An," referring to his daughter and grandson.
