QLD:Global food security conference in Qld.

An international conference on global food security has heard the future of Queensland's
fisheries and aquaculture industries depends on their understanding of the impacts of
challenges like soaring demand and population growth.

Managing Director of Fisheries Queensland .. JIM GROVES .. has told the conference
in Brisbane .. consumption of seafood worldwide is expected to double by 2050.

Mr GROVES says research has found wild catches of seafood peaked in the mid-1990's.

But he says Queensland's approach to precautionary management and the rebuilding of
stocks .. is ensuring the continued sustainability of stocks.
